John Middleton
The Rev. John Middleton, B.A.
John Middleton was born in Newcastle on Tyne in 1759. He graduated from St. John's College, Cambridge and was given the living of Vicar of Melbourne by the Lord Bishop of Carlisle in 1784, on the death of the previous Vicar, Henry Robinson. He later also became Rector of Wilsford in Lincolnshire.
In 1796 he married Miss Fisher, daughter of Thomas Fisher of Castle Donington, Leicestershire.
John died in 1830, aged 71, at Melbourne having been Vicar for 57 years. Some of his household goods were sold at the Vicarage in 1831.
From his memorial, donated by a friend, John sounds to have been well liked and "lamented by his flock".
